Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Advisor

Role Overview

Currently we are working on two projects in NE Syria where we are supporting financial and hands-on grassroots initiatives.

We are recruiting an international mental health, psychosocial care, and trauma counseling expert that will be able to provide remote technical support to RealtimeAid and our local partners (Changemakers - 10 in total).  The expert is expected to provide training and capacity building, technical inputs, monitoring, reporting and lessons learned support. The expert should be available for regular follow-up and direct consultations throughout the entire project to support the delivery of psychosocial and education and sport activities for children and youth in Raqqa City.

Responsibilities

1)  Hiring a Referral Mapping Specialist

  • Defining the role of the referral mapping specialist
  • Writing the ToR of the referral mapping specialist and interviewing the candidates and selecting the candidate for the position

Expected Deliverable: ToR and hiring documentation of the referral mapping specialist: Month 1

(2) Design and provide Trainer of Trainer (ToT) on how to identify and respond to signs of physical abuse + trauma for:

  • RealtimeAid field staff
  • Changemaker teams

Expected Deliverable: Trainer of Trainer (ToT) materials on how to identify and respond to signs of physical abuse + trauma; in English and Arabic - Month 2

(3) Provide technical management of RealtimeAid field teams and Changemaker teams on the delivery of MHPSS initiative activities for children and participants. Technical guidance can be provided remotely or in person and to be provided in the form of:

  • Reviewing policy and lessons plans and field reports and activity reports, etc
  • Supporting and finalising output and outcome monitoring - with a focus on reporting change in psychosocial indices
  • Responding to technical questions that may come up during the planning and delivery of activities
  • Direct support to Changemakers on QAQC, ensuring staff qualifications, and implementation of activities to support better MPHSS outcomes
  • Finalise technical donor reporting every month and before the end of the grant. (on donor logframe)

Expected Deliverable:

7 technical monthly reporting (including a monthly report and an activities tracker sheet_ on all Initiatives for the donor and an internal summary of above tasks, 1 final report in the donor template along with complete supporting documents ( by the 5th of each month for the monthly report, and by the 30th of December 2022 for the final report)

(4) Design a MHPSS oriented reporting framework that emphasises tracking change on MPHSS outcomes

  • Support the RAID team and Changemakers to make sure all systems and tools and processes better reflect MHPSS oriented outcomes.

Expected Deliverable: A MHPSS oriented reporting framework (Initiative M&E Plans & Grant Results Framework & review of reporting tools) that reflects MHPSS outcomes - Month 2

(5) Design and draft a follow-up MHPSS proposal to continue and expand on the current programme (expected September 2022).

Expected Deliverable: A MHPSS Phase 2 Concept Note. First draft expected September 2022.

Qualifications

  • Relevant educational background mental health and/or psychology is desirable)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar position with international or national NGOs is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing MHPSS programmes, with a strong understanding of protection issues linked to MHPSS programmes
  • Strong skills in program development, proposal and report writing
  • Practical experience in training and/or facilitation of groups and strong participatory facilitation skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English language skills
  • Native Arabic speaker, excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills - MS Office package
